Sound Native Plants has been growing native plants for restoration projects since 1992, and we are the largest nursery in western Washington devoted exclusively to growing native plants. We are primarily a wholesale nursery with 80,000 plants in production every year. Nursery client list

The nursery is managed by Cathy Sampselle and Adrienne Basey, with assistance from business founders Susan Buis and Ben Alexander. We have 54 years' combined experience working with native plants and environmental restoration. Together, we employ a comprehensive approach to growing the best native plants for restoration projects. It is a whole lot of fun and hard work.

Most of our plants are nursery grown and some are salvaged from construction sites. We never take plants from undisturbed areas and we use environmentally sensitive methods for collecting seeds and cuttings.

We offer:

Our catalog
Print/view pdf version
Sound Native Plant's catalog is unlike most you'll see. Instead of focusing on the appearance of stems, flowers, and leaves, we emphasize how each species typically performs in revegetation projects: how well it responds to transplanting, versatility in regard to light and soil conditions, and structure of root growth. We also include our species selection guide which may help you choose the best plants for various site conditions: from very wet to very dry, from full sun to shade, and from low maintenance to high.

You can view our catalog online by selecting from the following:

If you would like to have a copy of the whole document, you can download/print a pdf file using Acrobat Reader.

Our Nursery Practices
Restoration sites are often tough places for plants to grow; the soil can be poor and compacted, water scarce in the summer time, and shade non-existent. Often, site conditions are different than planned and plants end up in conditions wetter or drier, sunnier or shadier, than anticipated
only the most versatile and hardy plants survive.

We choose cultural practices, types of plant stock, and species that will give you the best possible results in the field. We want your projects to succeed!

Please see the introduction to our catalog for more details on our cultural practices, types of plant stock, and the species we grow.
